We are a volunteer-led community-based nonprofit created in 1989 to promote the social and economic vitality of West Berkeley, with particular attention to low-income families, seniors, youth, and disabled.
We are funded through member dues, donations, grants, and city of Berkeley funds. Our most recent project, in 2005, was a "Get Down to Business Night" resource fair and panels for self-employed people and small business. Our upcoming project is a Berkeley International Marketplace festival celebrating the foods and cultures of the San Pablo Avenue/University Avenue area. We also advocate for affordable housing and other types of community development that benefits the low-income folks who live and work in West Berkeley (Sacramento Street and west).
