Long-term goal is to see the United States join other industrialized nations by offering affordable health care to everyone through a single payer national health fund. In Alameda County, Vote Health works to strengthen and expand the Alameda County Medical Center, which includes the endangered Fairmont Hospital services and Highland Hospital. The Medical Center, which includes county clinics, is the only source of health services for the 300,000 uninsured people in Alameda County. General membership meetings are usually on the fourth Monday of each month (call to confirm) at the California Nurses Association offices: 2000 Franklin Street, 3rd Floor, Oakland, one block from 19th Street BART, 7 to 9 pm.
