A national 501(c)(3) educational organization that works to reduce gun death and injury in America by approaching firearms violence as a public health issue and illustrating the need to hold firearms to the same health and safety standards we hold all other consumer products. To this end, the VPC: conducts research on the gun industry, firearms violence, and federal regulatory approaches; develops public policy options and offers analyses of violence-reduction proposals; conducts public education activities through the news media and other organizations; educates policymakers and opinion leaders; and builds working coalitions with organizations that have not traditionally been part of the gun control debate but that represent constituencies affected by firearms violence.
