Works to end homelessness by providing housing and services to create communities where formerly homeless residents can flourish. APC is situated on the former Alameda Naval Air Station, and operates 239 housing units. APC provides affordable housing, job training, health services and employment in a community that fosters support and interaction. APC operates a community garden, bike shop, commercial plant nursery, health center and community center.
APC is fertile ground for several community-based projects. APC is home to the Growing Youth Project (GYP), which employs resident youth working to build a sustainable food system for Alameda Point. GYP operates a community garden, weekly produce delivery and teaches residents about cooking and nutrition. APC also gave birth to Ploughshares Nursery (www.ploughsharesnursery.com), a commercial nursery specializing in native, drought-tolerant plants. Finally, APC sponsors Cycles of Change, a nonprofit community bike shop that recycles donated bikes and sells them to the public.
